The biggest tech show in the world took place last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. CES (known as the Consumer Electronics Show) featured thousands of statups and entrepreneurs are joining technology’s biggest firms at the conference to demonstrate what products you should expect to see 2019.
The convention featured everything from tv displays, to Virtual/Augmented Reality and everything in between. This article focuses on our favourite trending products of 2019.
CES 2019: ROLL-UP OLED TV
We’ve seen the technology already in the news about foldable phones, but did you know that LG has taken it a step further and released a foldable OLED television? As viewing experience increases every year with the size of the screen, TVs also take up more space within a room. This is why the foldable TV screen was developed by LG and display as CES 2019.
In Full View, the entire 65-inch screen is unrolled and visible, for regular TV-viewing. Line View partially unrolls the screen and presents a viewing slot featuring date, time and music control displays. In Zero View, the screen is completely retracted yet music and audio content can still be played. The TV can also be voice controlled by its users with support from Amazon’s Alexa.
TILT-ROTOR AIR TAXI
The flying taxi space is becoming pretty crowded with companies such as Volocopter, Aston Martin, Boeing, Rolls-Royce and Airbus all creating and developing audacious vehicle concepts and Bell is no different.
At CES 2019, the company unveiled, Nexus – a look at the future of transport that is both interesting and far-reaching, turning to a tilting six-rotor design to take off and propel itself through the air. The air taxi’s hybrid propulsion and drive systems are designed by French manufacturer Safran Helicopter Engines, and center around six rotors that lay flat like pancakes when Nexus is stationary on the ground.
BODY HEAT & SOLAR POWERED SMART WATCH
In 2016, Matrix developed a smartwatch that was powered only by body heat. This year, as CES 2019, they have re-engineered the PowerWatch by adding a number of upgrades, including a solar panel.
Unlike other smart watches, you don’t have to rely on a battery or charge to your device over night in order for it to work. The sun’s energy will do that for you. Other improvements with PowerWatch X include a color screen and a GPS sensor for getting location fixes without the aid of a linked smartphone. The watch can monitor sleep patterns and will even tell you how much body heat you’re generating.
3D PRINTED FACIAL MASK
The next generation of skin care has arrived and was displayed by Nuetrogena last weekend at CES 2019. Ready-made “sheet masks” have become very popular in the beauty industry and are used for hydrating and delivering nutrients to skin. Neutrogena has taken this concept further and developed its MaskiD system. Essentially, the system analyses skin tone and quality and fabricates a 3D-printed mask that is completely customisable to the shape and needs of each client’s face.
Users start by taking a smartphone selfie, from which a 3D digital map of their face is created. That map includes precise measurements of the spaces between their various facial features. The next step is to use Skin360. This is a smartphone mounted imaging device that scans your skin, providing information like, size and depth of lines/wrinkles and the moisture level of skin in different areas.
VIVE VR HEADSET
HTC is gearing up to launch the Vive Pro Eye and could be found last weekend in CES, Las Vegas. The improved VR headset is the first of its kind to come with built-in eye-tracking for “gaze-oriented menu navigation.”
The Vive Cosmos is an easy to set up and use headset that doesn’t require any external sensors placed around the room. Instead, there are extra sensors in the headset that let it detect any obstacles around the user like the Vive Focus.
