Sometimes we take for granted our everyday household gadgets that make our busy lives a little easier. Where would we be without our smartphone alarm to wake us up or our coffee maker, brewing that first cup of heavenly coffee every morning? How would we change the tv channels without the remote control for example? These small handheld and household gadgets are part and partial of our everyday lives, however, with the implementation of smart homes and the Internet of Things (IoT) paving the way for the future, we can except new and exciting gadgets just around the corner.
With smart technologies that can connect to the web, communicate with other home devices, and save on energy, not only will our lives be made more convenient, but we’ll also be living a much more eco-friendly lifestyle. We will also be able to automate future (and current) household gadgets using artificial intelligence – meaning we won’t even need to be in our homes for our gadgets to be in full use!
Whether in concept or already in development, the types of smart technologies emerging is on the rise. So what are some of these technologies we can expect to find our smart homes within the next few years? Keep reading to find our favourite products, already, or soon to be, on the market.
Automated Robots
When we say ‘automated robot’ we aren’t talking about fully functional, life-like, humanoid robots that can do all our biddings, like an avatar. We are still a ways off from that reality. However, automated robots already exist and are being used in a lot of homes today. Devices like our Robo Vacuum or our self-window cleaner can be used in the home and clean the floors.
Our smart robotic vacuum is Wi-FI connected allowing you to schedule cleaning anywhere using the App. The cleaning system provides a powerful clean that loosens dirt and dander for a healthier house. Smart move technology lets the vacuum navigate around corners, furniture, and clutter with ease!

Smart Plugs
It is essentially a power receptacle that plugs into a traditional electrical outlet and integrates it into your smart home network, allowing you to control whatever you plug into it from an app on your smartphone or with your voice through a virtual assistant.
With many smart plugs available on the market, its hard to know which one best suits your needs. If you want to learn more about the features and brands available to you, visit the useful article here.
Smart Fridges
A product we think will be in every home within the next 10 years will be the smart fridge. There are currently smart refrigerators on the market that feature a touchscreen interface and ability to connect to the internet through Wi-Fi to provide a number of additional features. Smart refrigerators can include internal cameras, more flexible user-controlled cooling options, and the ability for you to interact with its features using your smartphone or tablet when away from home. Some smart refrigerators can even connect with other smart devices in your home; such as speakers, smart TVs, and even your smart dishwasher or smart microwave.
Not all smart fridges offer the same range of features, but some we love include the ability to coordinate schedules for every member of the family, look up recipes and have your fridge read the steps while you cook, create grocery lists that sync to your smartphone in real-time and even set expiration dates and receive notifications to use food while it’s fresh – to name but a few!
Living, Breathing Walls
This next product is one that is beneficial to our overall health and well-being. Did you know that most people spend around 22 hours per day inside and that interior environments can actually contain higher levels of pollutants than the world outside?
This is why we had to include the smart green wall designed by Naava on our list. In an effort to improve indoor air quality and reconnect humans with nature, Finland-based Naava has designed a smart green wall monitored by sensors and artificial intelligence. They describe their product as a “fully automated air purifier, humidifier, and living plant wall all in one,” and they even boast a scientific study to support the claim that their wall sucks pollutants out of the air.
Plants absorb air, the microbes of their roots purify that air, and then fans send the purified air back into the room. Plants grow in a soil-less growth medium on the vertical garden, which can be attached to a wall or act as a space divider. Pretty cool, right?
Solar Panel Clothing
If you struggle to get a full nights sleep and find yourself restless in the middle of the night, perhaps this next home gadget is the one for you. This is the smart bed cover, Luna. As you lie down, the lights, temperature (of both the bed and the room), and the music all adjust to a setting of your choice. Then as you fall asleep, they adjust again, perhaps turning off completely.
Luna makes this possible through a smart mattress cover that tracks your body temp, movements, heart rate etc. It takes the data collected and allows the smart technology to automate a sleep time routine that is unique to your personal needs. Sounds like a dream!
As you can see in the video above, Luna is a cover that fits over your mattress. It then automatically tracks your sleep, sending the data to both the Luna app and to other Internet-connected devices at home.
